How It Began
I receive weekly SEO emails for technoogies.com, but I don’t usually look at them. However, today one report caught my eye as it mentioned a problem with the sitemap for Technoogies.
Upon checking the report, I found that there was a redirect on a page called Customized Meta Tags. I didn’t remember creating any page with that name. When I looked at the page, I couldn’t find an option to delete it. I suspected that the page might have been created by a plugin, but I didn’t want to start disabling all the plugins on the site without understanding the situation better, and it’s too much work. I’m lazy!
Who’s Plugin Made It?
So, I decided to check my password manager, where I store not only passwords but also information about all the tools I use, including license keys. Each entry has a modified date. I scrolled through the entries until I found one with the same modified date as the creation date of the page. It turned out to be Better Links Pro. Aha!
I then went to my staging site, located the page with no delete option, and then disabled Better Links Pro. Returning to the page, I found that I could now delete it. I deleted the page and then emptied the trash. After that, I re-enabled Better Links Pro. As expected, the page was recreated.
Fixing the sitemap
So, if you come across a page in your WordPress site called Customized Meta Tags that you don’t remember creating, perhaps you’re using Better Links Pro. I set the page to “no index” and “no archive” because I didn’t want it to appear in my sitemap anymore. Problem solved!
By the way, you won’t find anything about this random page called Customized Meta Tags on the Better Links Pro – WPDeveloper.net website. I have no idea what it does and don’t want to spend any time asking them about it.
